DP TRAINING, SINGAPORE COURSE INFORMATION PACK FOR 2013 Issued 28 Oct 2012 1 Dear Course Participant, Thank you for your interest in the courses offered by the Dynamic Positioning Centre. The Dynamic Positioning Centre provides the following training courses: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. DP Operator Induction and Advanced DP Computer Maintenance DP Appreciation DP Refresher Dive Vessel Management Training is carried out in our premises within the C-MAR Asia office, located at the International Business Park. OPERATOR COURSES Our Centre is accredited to the Nautical Institute, London (NI), for conduct of DP Operator’s Induction and Simulator Courses. For detailed and complete NI requirements please refer to their website at: http://wendang.chazidian.com/. The guidelines apply to all Nautical Institute approved DP Training Centres and are strictly applied. It is expected that after March 2012, the Nautical Institute will examine students online at approved Centres, for award of Basic Course certificates by them. Please pay special attention to the operational DP vessel time that is needed in between the Basic & Advanced courses & the 5 years limit on attending the Advanced (Simulator) DP course following the Basic (Induction) DP course. The rule applies even if the delegate has been on DP vessels continuously since attending the Basic Course. Detailed information about the Nautical Institute’s scheme can be found on their website. Please note that the scheme is under review. Online test at the end of the DP Basic Course is expected to commence after 31 Jan ‘2013. COURSE SCHEDULE The DP Course schedule for Singapore, outlining the available dates for all training courses is attached. Please check vacancy available on the preferred dates to book. Once availability is confirmed with the Centre, fill the attached Course Registration form and return for processing. COURSE OUTLINE & ELIGIBILITY BASIC (INDUCTION) COURSE The Basic Induction Course involves both theory and practice on a simulated DP system (Converteam/GE Emulator Version 5 system, and Kongsberg SDP Trainer). This is the first step to obtain a DPO certification. Students undergo a test at the end of Course. From 31 Jan 2013, the online assessment test at end of the Course will administered by the Nautical Institute, London. Students are expected to 2 obtain 70% to pass. The NI will give a candidate up to 3 attempts, but not at the same time. In case of a failure, the second attempt may be taken within 24 hours of the first one. Eligibility: After 01 Jan 2012, for eligibility to attend this Course, candidates must belong to one of the following categories: i) Be in possession of a Certificate of Competenc y issued by a Maritime Administration – STCW Deck or Engine The Minimum qualification will be set at STCW Regulation II/1 - II/2 - II/3 Deck and Regulation III/1 – III /2 – III/3 Engine STCW II/1 Deck II/2 Deck II/3 Deck III/1 Engine III/2 Engine III/3 Engine DEFINITION Officers in charge o

f a navigational watch on ships of 500 GRT or more. Master and chief mate on ships of 3,000 GRT or more. Officers in charge of a navigational watch and of masters on ships of less than 500 GRT. Officers in charge of an engineering watch in a manned engine-room or designated duty engineers in a periodically unmanned engine-room. Chief engineer officers and 2nd engineer officers on ships powered by main propulsion machinery of 3,000kW propulsion power or more. Chief engineer officers and 2nd engineer officers on ships powered by main propulsion machinery of between 750kW and 3,000 kW propulsion ii) iii) iv) Have an approved Marine Vocational Qualification endorsed by Maritime Administration, which will be valid within its jurisdiction A Cadet undertaking STCW qualifications, who can only go as far as Phase 2 of the scheme – Seagoing familiarisation of up to 30 days (Has letter from his Company or Institute). A person outwith the above categories, but found suitable by the Nautical Institute (Case by case basis). Has a letter of approval from the Nautical Institute ADVANCED (SIMULATOR) COURSE The participants engage in simulated DP operations. It involves setting the vessel up in DP Mode, use of DP Reference systems and Sensors, Capability Plot, Power management, and other essential DP Features such as Track Follow Mode, Auto-track and ROV Follow Mode. Exercises are designed for different vessel types to give students an overall working knowledge of the essential aspects of DP Operations. Participants carry out various roles, some typical faults are induced and each exercise is followed by a debriefing session. Emphasis is placed on planning and safe operations. The Course brings together lessons learnt during the Induction/Basic course and the seagoing DP familiarisation phase. The Course is conducted on a Duplex Converteam “A” Series Version 5 DP system. Eligibility: i) 5 year time limit for completion of all phases of the NI’s scheme on a rolling year count, for those who completed the DP Basic Course on or before 31 Dec ‘2011. Rolling year basis means that a person who completed the DP Basic Course on 07 Jan 2011, will have time until 31 Dec 2016 to complete based on the old scheme – that is to say, does not need to have STCW qualifications. Provided he has DP watchkeeping time and has completed all required entries in the DP logbook satisfactorily he will be eligible to go through the Advanced Course. An ETO or Radio Officer who fulfills the other conditions will thus be eligible. 3 ii) For those who have completed the Basic Course after 01 Jan 2012, they should belong to categories i) ii) or iv) listed above for the Basic Course above, to be eligible. MAINTENANCE COURSE The DP Maintenance Course covers a generic and basic understanding of DP systems, their architecture, and laying emphasis on an analytical approach to fault diagnosis. Participants are taken through the Course on a Converteam Version 4, duplex system. Depend

ing on the technical background of participants, it enables diagnosis of faults in order to pass on information in a useful manner to the manufacturer / shore management. It equips technicians with the ability to trace and repair certain faults by replacement of components. This Course conforms to guidelines of the system manufacturer. APPRECIATION COURSE The DP Appreciation Course is structured to provide non-operational DP personnel, knowledge of the DP industry. This course is conducted in 1, 2 or 3 day sessions, depending on customer’s requirements. REFRESHER COURSE The DP Refresher’s Course is recommended for DP Operators who want an update to their knowledge of DP operations and emergencies, taking into account recent developments in the industry. Existing IMCA, and Nautical Institute guidelines are also discussed. It is recommended after a gap of 5 years from the last DP Course, especially when the Operator has been away for a while. DIVE & CONSTRUCTION VESSEL MANAGEMENT COURSE The Course is suited for Senior deck officers working on Dive Construction ships, who want a more thorough understanding of Diving and Construction activities and procedures. It will also benefit those managing such vessels as client’s representatives or shore managers, and deck officer’s who want to switch over to such Vessels from a different working environment. The Course for deck officers includes DP Simulator based exercises. Detailed course outline for the respective training courses is indicated in the attachment. THE NAUTICAL INSTITUTE, LONDON The Nautical Institute London, awards DP Operator Certificates for those who complete DP Training according to their scheme. That involves attending Basic & Advanced Courses at accredited Centres and the requisite sea time onboard a DP Vessel. All relevant sections of the Nautical Institute’s DP logbook need to be completed before a final application is made for a certificate. From 01 Jan ‘2012, applications have first to be set up online and each candidate will be assigned a tracking number. Details can be seen on the Nautical Institute’s website, where there are guidance documents covering the entire process. A newsletter of the Nautical Institute is attached, covering changes affecting DP Operator Courses which are certified by the NI; that will come into force from 1st January 2012.
