ABSTRACT
He Luting , reputed as the forerunner of Chinese national music ,is both a composer and music critic who has a great contribution to Chinese music field. He inherited and delivered the cultural essence of Chinese traditional music. He also witnessed the development of Chinese new music in the 20th century. He provided a very valuable composing experience and musical wealth for the cultural development of our Chinese music by his music theory and composing practices in several decades, which particularly has great historical and social significance in the side of the composing of music with nationality. Starting from the introduction of He Luting’s life and major musical works, the thesis analyzed the nationality of his musical works from various angles such as melody, harmony, orchestration, instrumental performance technique etc. The thesis also discussed the historical contribution of the composing technique that used in He Luting’s piano works. The social meanings of the nationality in He Luting’s pop songs and revolutionary songs were also discussed in this thesis.
