2. Translate the following underlined part of the text into Chinese. (35points)

(1) In winter we are faced with the problem of keeping comfortably warm both indoors and out. The solution of this problem involves what we call the conservation of heat. In summer, the situation is reversed, although the problem of keeping cool also means the control of heat in its proper place. Our most important source of heat is the sun. The more nearly vertical the sun’s rays are, the more heat they give on a horizontal surface. This explains why we receive more heat at noon than in the morning or evening, more in summer than in winter, and more near the equator than near the poles.

(2) When Iraq invaded Kuwait, I was on a course of study in Taiwan. On the way home, my plane stopped off at Dhahran Airport for refueling. At that time, the airport was silent and deserted. It is hard to believe that it is now at eh center of a savage and brutal war.

When the war began on January 18th, the authorities believed that the multi-national force was irresistible and that the war would be short and swift. But now, the situation seems quite the reverse; the war is likely to take at least several months before it blows itself out.

As most people think that test scores are the basic yardstick of a student’s ability, students pay too much attention to their marks. In order to get good grades, they use various means to cheat, hurting themselves as well as their fellow students, teachers and parents.

The very fact makes students more interested in their marks than in knowledge, brings about unhealthy competition among students and creates a series of problems in teaching.

Requirement:

Write and essay of no less than 300 words, expressing your views on cheating in examinations.

In the first part of your writing you should present your thesis statement and in the second part you should support the thesis statement with appropriate details. In the last part you should bring what you have written to a natural conclusion with a summary. Marks will be awarded for organization as well as for syntactic variety and appropriate word choice.
