A book report about Of Mice and Men Of Mice and Men is a novella written by John Steinbeck,the winner of the 1962 Nobel Prize in Literature,who was an American author of twenty-seven books, including sixteen novels, six non-fiction books, and five collections of short stories. He is widely known for the comic novels Tortilla Flat (1935) and Cannery Row (1945), the mufti-generation epic East of Eden (1952), and the novellas Of Mice and Men (1937) and The Red Pony (1937). The Pulitzer Prize-winning The Grapes of Wrath (1939), widely attributed to be part of the American literary canon, is considered John's masterpiece. And he also has been called "a giant of American letters".

Of Mice and Men was published in 1937, it tells the story of George Milton and Lenny Small who are poor in social adaptation, always make mistakes, so that they often change their jobs.In the rich Tyler Ranch’s pastures, they are trying to weave a dream job, George promised Lenny if Lenny don't make trouble, in the future, Lenny can take care of a nest of rabbit,and watch his dreams come true.Once strangled, Lenny killed

Ranch’s son’s wife,in order to escape from the farm lads beat, Lenny ran away.George in order not to let Lenny killed by farm lads and insulted, first to find Lenny.He raised his gun to gun near to the back of Lenny’s head,and Lenny was shot.

This novel was based on John's own experiences as a vagrant in the 1920s and the title is taken from Robert Burns' poem "To a Mouse", which read: "The best laid schemes o' mice an' men / Gang aft Langley". (The best laid schemes of mice and men / Often go awry.) Of Mice and Men has been a frequent target of censors for vulgarity and what some consider offensive and racist language; consequently, it appears on the American Library Association's list of the Most Challenged Books of 21st Century.

Of Mice and Men was noted to be a great example of the use of animal imagery. Throughout the course of the novella Steinbeck often uses animal imagery to emphases the key themes of mental disability, racism and the inevitable tragedy of the ending.

From this novel I have learned a lot such as the gap between dreams and reality ,the gap between the strong and the weak.

People often put the longing for a better future in the dream, and this desire will become their fighting for power,so do Lenny!

ated in his dream made by George:”Wait to saved up enough money to buy a few acres, a small house, to raise a few chickens, a nest of rabbit, a cow, a few pigs......”After all, there is a gap between dream and reality, however, his dream was eventually shot by the cruel reality.This novel makes Lenny into the image of an idiot, which suggests his dream is just a wishful thinking.As the saying goes well: Dream is full, the reality is very skinny.(梦想很丰满,现实很骨感)

Lenny is so strong that mice, dogs, even were he has no intention to knead dead Curlers wife.In this respect, he is the powerhouse.Lenny ,of the intellectual disability, however, is typical of the weak.Steinbeck described him as a "bear", suggests that he is stupid, just like animals, he completely rely on rely on George’s care and protection.He is a limbs developed, simple fool.

These contradictions make profound meaning in the novel. A common evolution of social life is that the situation that dreams and reality are always difficult to be satisfied.Better future is always the people’s longing, but in front of the cruel reality, ordinary people, especially the vulnerable groups,when they want to realize their dreams, the odds are against.But this can not prevent us actively to pursue, to struggle our dreams.

That people is alive to pursue, to dream, to live happy is the ideal life.Everyone should have a dream and do not worry about whether we can achieve it , because having a dream is a kind of happiness .When we make efforts for our dreams, we are happy.
