　　With more than 3500 years of history, Wuhan can be listed into the ancient and civilized cities in China. As is known to all, Wuhan can be divided into 3 parts, which are Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang. And three part came into public sight and the history records in different time. Hanyang, which is a part of Wuhan has become the important transportation section in ancient China during the Han dynasty. Then during the Yuan dynasty, under the Mongol dominators, Wuchang was promoted to the status of province capital. By the early time of 18th century, Hankou has become China’s top town of trade. In 1927, the term “Wuhan” came to the history stage. So Wuhan has been seen the young city with a sense of history.

　　In the early Chinese history, Wuhan can take an important role on the stage. In the late 19th century, the extending of railroad and the special geography location made Wuhan become one of few intersection of over 2 main railways crossing the entire China. And with the important strategic position of shipping, Wuhan has become almost the most important transshipment and junction of Central China.

　　Also during this period, foreign powers extracted mercantile concessions, with the riverfront of Hankou being divided into foreign merchant districts. These parts are used to be trading firm offices, warehouses and docking facilities which are reserved intactly with full use.

　　On the October 10, 1911, Sun Yat-sen’s followers launched the Wuchang Uprising,

　　which has been the modern China’ s leading horn. This campaign has important historical significance in collapse of the decayed Qing dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China. Wuhan was the capital of a leftist Kuomintang government led by Wang Jingwei during the 1920s.

　　During the Second Sino-Japanese War and the following the fall of Nanking in December 1937, Wuhan had become the provisional capital of China’s Kuomintang government. Wuhan witnessed the raged battle which is called the Battle of Wuhan in 1938. After that, Wuhan became a major Japanese logistics center for operations in southern China. In December 1944, Wuhan suffered from U.S firebombing raids conducted by the Fourteenth Air Force. On May 16, 1949, Wuhan greet the peaceful liberation under the negotiations between Kuomintang and the Communist Party.

　　Wuhan is facing the international challenge. As early as the 1860s, Wuhan was transformed from a inland commodity distribution center to an international treaty port. As China’s earliest city of opening, Wuhan obtain the international reputation. Up to now, there are 23 cities and states around world establishing the full friendly and cooperative relations, including Oita Japan, Duisburg Germany, Manchester U.K and Bordeaux France.

　　As evidences for upgrading of the international competitiveness, Wuhan hosts more and more the influential international events, including the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup Badminton Open, FIBA Asia Cup and the WDSF. Worth to mention, Wuhan hosts the Wuhan Open as one of the world’s top ten WTA tennis tournaments.

　　Even through Wuhan has experienced ups and downs, Wuhan is still in constant

　　progress and on the way towards a better future. “Wuhan different everyday” is not just a slogan.
