2015教师资格国考教学设计练习题:高中英语《Good friends-Chuck's friend》

  2. Lead in the topic by free talk:

  Q1: How would you feel if you were alone on a deserted island?

  Q2: Have you ever read books or seen movies about island life?

  Q3: How did the main characters survive?

  T: OK. We just talked about how the main characters survive to live on an island. But can you imagine the life on an island? Today were going to learn a similar passage Chucks Friend.

  Step 2: Pre-reading (10min)

  Activity 1: Guessing words (3 minutes)

  Understand and master the new words mirror, hammer, saw, rope, compass by asking and guessing. For example, what can you use to get directions? (a compass)

  Activity 2: Discussion of the 3 useful items and giving opinions (6 minutes)

  1. Imagine that you are alone on an island. You have to survive without friends and all the things you use in your everyday life. Which of the items in the box would be the most useful to you on the island? List three most useful items and explain why you think they would be useful.

  2. Ask students to use the sentence structure to express their opinions: I think because/ I could use it to/ it could be used to/ would be more important than because. For example: I think that a box of matches would be the most useful, because I could use it to make a fire to prepare a meal, to warm myself, and to give the signal.

  3. Go among the students to listen to their discussion. Then choose several students to express their opinions.

  Activity 3: Prediction (1 minute)

  Ask students to read the title and predict who Chucks friend is.

  Step 3: While-reading (15min)

  Skimming and scanning.

  Ask students to read the passage quickly and finish the following exercises:

  1. Match each paragraph with its main idea.

  Para 1 develop deep friendship with Wilson

  Para 2 the importance with friendship

  Para 3 learn how to make a living

  Para 4 survive and land on a deserted island

  2. Answer the following questions:

  Q1: Who is Chuck? Is he a real man? (A character in a movie)

  Q2: Whos Chucks Friend? (Answer: A volleyball/ Wilson.)

  Q3: Whats the name of the movie? (Cast Away)

  Careful reading.

  Guide students to read the text carefully from word to sentence followed by paragraph. Inspire them to smooth away the obstacles and problems by means of guessing words, observing word-formation, analyzing grammar structure, creating situation, etc. And then finish the following exercises.

  1. True or false questions:

  (1) Cast Away is a play. (F)

  (2) Chuck Noland plays a man named Tom Hanks. (F)

  (3) On the island, Chuck has to learn to survive all alone. (T)

  (4) Chuck develops a friendship with an unusual friend--- a basketball on a deserted island. (F)

  (5) Chuck learns that we need our family and relations to share happiness and sorrow. (F)

  2. Show them some questions on the screen and enable students to answer:

  Q1: Whats Chucks job?

  Q2: What happened to Chuck one day?

  Q3: What things must Chuck learn to do to survive on the island?

  Q4: What does Chuck learn about himself when he is alone on the island?

  Q5: What lesson can we learn from Chuck?

  Language points.

  1. Ask students to underline the difficult language points.

  2. Go through the paragraphs and explain underlined points with other words or phrases. For example: Now lets look at paragraph one, line one Hanks Plays a man named Chuck Noland. Here play means what? Yes, play means play a role in a movie, act, be an actor.

  Step 4: Post-reading (10min)

  1. Ask students to retell the passage with the help of the moving pictures taken from the film.

  2. Divide the students into groups of four and ask students to have a discussion: Imagine that four people are in an airplane that is going to crash. One is a policeman, one is a doctor, one is a teacher, and one is a scientist. There is only one parachute. Decide who should get the parachute and explain why.

  After discussion, choose the representatives to share their opinions.

  Step 5: Summary and Homework: (5min)

  Summary: Ask one student to act as an assistant teacher to guide others to summarize the reading skills and the main information of the text. And then make a summary.

  Homework:

  1. Read the text and try to remember the useful expressions and words. Watch the film.

  2. Write a passage about living on a deserted island. You may describe the life on the island, your feelings, what do you feel about the life or friendship.
