雅思高分作文

1 Air transport is increasingly used to export some types of fruits and vegetables to countries where those plants can not grow or are out of season. Some say it is a good thing, but others consider this use of transport cannot be justified. What do you think?

Nowadays, there is no denying that air transport has become a heated argument on which people hold quite diverse standpoints. Some people claim that different types of fruits and vegetables can be exported to countries where those plants are everyday requisites that are not available in the market, while others advocate that this use of transport cannot be justified. As far as I am concerned, I am of the viewpoint that it is essentially important to make good use of air transport, provided that it is properly regulated and superintended by corresponding government watchdogs.

Firstly, air transport can cater for the basic needs of those people who have almost no access to those daily necessities since these fruits and vegetables are out of their local market. Recent surveys have found that nearly 60% of the countries or regions all over the world have to import goods and products from other countries with an aim to satisfying people's requirements, and among those things from other countries such agricultural products as fruits and vegetables rank in the first place.

Furthermore, air transport can not only boost the local economy but also increase the fiscal revenue of the government. Furthermore, the government can take advantage of the money to improve the living standard of the locals. Only in this way can local residents benefit a great deal form air transport. Last but not least, air transport allows countries in the world to specialize in the state-of-the-art techniques of manufacturing and processing in order to optimize natural resources that are the most valuable wealth that human beings shall cherish so as to stimulate their economy continuously since the trend of global cooperation and collaboration is inevitable and indispensable.

From the above-mentioned analysis, we can easily reach the conclusion that air transport of fruits and vegetables plays a vital and indispensable role in both people' life and the country's economy, and I have the convicted faith that people will really utilize it positively and proactively.

2 Advantages and disadvantages of private cars. 小汽车的利与弊。

With the fantastic spur both in industry and in economy in China, the number of people who own private cars is on the rise. Some people have bought cars of their own, and others are planning to buy cars. But there have been two quite different views on this phenomenon.

Some claim that there are many advantages brought about by cars. First, the automobile industry provides jobs for countless workers and strong support for other industries. Second, if conditions permit, owning a car can make us work more efficiently. Finally, life will become more convenient. A car allows one to move freely and with a car there is no need to wait for the bus in the cold or under the burning sun.

However, others strongly object to the increase in developing private cars. They hold that automobiles will give rise to a series of problems. In the first place, as more and more cars are produced and run in the street, a large volume of poisonous gas will be given off, polluting the atmosphere and causing actual harm to the health of people. Next, private cars contribute to traffic congestion so greatly that the advantages gained in comfort and freedom are often cancelled out by the frustration caused by traffic jams. The last problem is the increasing number of car accidents that have killed and will kill a lot of people in a friction of a second.

In my opinion, although automobiles have been playing a vital part in the daily activities of our society, they also bring us numerous troubles such as more serious environmental pollution, more traffic accidents and more energy consumption. They drink up huge amounts of fuel and throw out huge amounts of pollutants. Traffic accidents kill thousands and thousands of people each year and cripple more. Jams waste our precious time. Therefore I am against developing private cars.

3 Some British families decide not to buy televisions because they influence the development of the creativity of children. What do you think?

As science and technology accelerates, television, as a powerful invention in the 20th century is becoming unbelievably popular in people’s life. People can be acquainted with the current affairs and appreciate the affluent programs right at home. As to my opinion on it, television will not whittle children’s creativity as exaggerated.

To begin with, television is the most effective means to inform children of the latest news and scientific improvement all over the world. Television reveals the recent development of some researches, such as the new computing technology, clone technology, genetic breakthroughs and so on, which can inspire the imagination of children and motivate them to conduct relevant experiments, making new findings and breakthroughs in their study.

Moreover, some programs like adventures and geography can enlarge children’s capacity of knowledge. With the emergence of information technology, the knowledge presented in textbooks cannot cater for children’s curiosity any more. Children need to learn wider knowledge and know more about our world. Programs like adventures can cultivate children’s creativity and the ability to tackle difficulty; programs like geography can teach children knowledge about different countries in the world and initiate their aspiration to know about the nature; programs about science can inspire children’s interest in science and technology.

Admittedly, the inappropriate programs on television somehow play negative role in the shape of children. The films containing violence, crimes and pornography contents tempt children to go astray.

In a word, it is my strong belief that television will not impair children’s creativity as is asserted. Nevertheless, the government and the whole society

should exert to eliminate the unhealthy contents on TV and ensure the children with a favorable growing environment.

4 Many people say that we have developed into a “throw-away society”, because we are filling up our environment with so many plastic bags and rubbish that we cannot fully dispose of. To what degree do you agree with this opinion and what measures can you recommend to reduce this problem? Mrs. Liu, as a retired rural lady in mountain area of Sichuan province, with the aim of environmental protection, has voluntarily collected eight hundreds kilograms of used batteries by her meager life-saving as well as thousands of waste plastic bags. Reading this coverage, besides touched by this sincere environmentalist, I feel shame on 123lf—regarded as a well educated modernist but “throw away” rubbish everyday!

Undoubtedly, it is the right time to ponder about environmental problems.

To begin with, it is turning to be an industrialized society and quite popular to produce a titanic number of those plastic bags and packages because of their low cost and high profit. Meanwhile, there are too many infectious diseases so it is necessary to popularize through-away syringes and throw-away chopsticks to avoid explosion of communicable diseases. As a result, we have neglected that plastic, as one of the biggest enemy of environment, is not biodegradable. This feature has already caused an irretrievable white pollution in our planet.

On the other hand, people’s the outlook on consumption is completely altered in this epoch. The rapidly increasing income brings about a new life style that is keep buying the new things and discarding the old ones, such as furniture, clothes, and articles of everyday use. Such an extravagant custom dramatically swell the amount of trash which cannot be totally deposed, triggering off a serious pollution. The best way to solve the problem, in my opinion, is to reduce the production of plastic and try to use paper bags as much as possible. At the same time, the government also should implement some powerful policies to popularize the environmental knowledge and encourage more volunteers such as Mrs. Liu to safe the dirty earth.

Money and success

The notion of success holds different meanings for different people and groups. Such meanings have changed and evolved over time. Actually, many propose that possessing an abundance of money implies success. However, this view is rendered obsolete in the minds of those individuals who hold that one's success cannot be measured strictly by money.

Material possession has been traditionally accepted as the measurement of one's success or social status. When we initially refer to someone, we routinely mention how much money he owns and thereby believe this individual to be quite successful if he is wealthy. In addition to this perpetuated concept, owning a

lot of money is typically related to one's work ability and thus some people may simply consider money as a prime measurement of one's success.

However, this view has changed recently since many people have come to recognize that money in many cases cannot bring about happiness, health and success.

A more precise, contemporaneous definition of success means doing the things one perceives are valuable to themselves and beneficial for others. The winner of the Nobel Prize for peace may think he is has achieved success although he is rewarded little financial benefit. A person who loves animals and makes an effort to save animals that are on a path of extinction may think he has gained success although he may have expended all of his money on his career.

Another individual may define success as being able to make artistic masterpieces that can be accepted by public. As a composer, success is having his work praised by adoring fans and who help cause the work to be bought the world over. Similarly, holding an exhibition in a famous art gallery may connote success for a painter.

People adhere to various concepts defining success. Money surely cannot be the only measurement of success. Acquiring true happiness in life and attaining success means having the freedom and capability of doing that which you enjoy and believing it to be valuable.

Computers - will they replace teachers?

With the present wide use of computers, in the course of teaching, more and more teachers are in favour of using computers as an aid in teaching their students or in appropriating the latest information from the Internet. However, I am not a believer in the argument that computers may in the future take the place of teachers in teaching students.

Firstly, the creators of any education program and software need to be teachers or workers in the education system, or programmers who had previously worked in education. Therefore, although students may learn knowledge by computer, the skills and ideas ultimately emanate from the teaching staff.

Secondly, while the computer may offer a correct answer or explanation to students, the comprehension capability of every student varies from student to student, making it is impossible for the computer to offer an explanation catered to a student’s particular level of understanding. However, the teacher is able to undertake this task, as he or she possesses expertise in teaching. For example, when a teacher discovers that many students cannot understand professional knowledge, he or she may offer explanatory examples. The computer, however, may only analyze a question in terms of a simple right or wrong response.

Finally, the teachers are invariably responsible for carrying a dual role. Most teachers act as not only an educator, but also a kind of father or mother-figure in taking care of students in school. The teacher is able to assist parents in solving a child’s mental problems other than imparting daily knowledge. The computer, which is purely an algorithmic electronic device, cannot hope to

assist in this regard. In summary, the computer may not play a major role in education in comparison to the benefits of a teacher bestows. However, it is critical that teachers improve their old teaching modes by using computers at some level of educational teaching.

Nature or Nurture?

While many individuals complain that they are not sufficiently clever to succeed in life, I firmly believe that personality and development are decided more by education and training after birth than any given gene.

To begin with, environment is a determining factor of one's personality. One may think that personality is already shaped once a baby is born, but in fact there are many contributing factors. The baby, for instance, would most likely be pessimistic if he or she lived in a poor family, where the baby always received punishment from his parents. His view of life would be very different from another individual who lived happily in a perfect nurturing family with encouragement and psychological support from his parents.

Further, education after birth plays a significantly role in one's development. Education, which helps children develop their thinking and accumulate their knowledge, is a deciding factor of one's success. For example, a high-school level person commonly may not to the extent of a person who has received an university education. This is not only because of the greater breadth of knowledge acquired, but also due to a more critical and focused way of thinking that is imparted and refined during ones senior education. A wolf child, to offer another instance, due to a deficiency of education by contact with human beings, could hardly live in our society or self-develop.

Admittedly, nature, decided by the genes given by one's parents, also affects one's personality and development. One can clearly find differences among younger kids in their learning ability, which could prove the importance of genes in this regard. However, when compared with other factors after birth, the role genes play in one's personality and development may not be particularly significant. Not all genius will inevitably be successful, and similarly not all great men are genius in their childhood. Therefore, I hold that environment and education after birth weigh heavier than nature in regard to one's personality and development.

Compete or cooperate?

Both competition and cooperation play a large role in the advancement of society, both in business and non-business areas. Competition forces people to improve their products or services, and hence benefits the recipients of these products or services. Cooperation, however, plays an even more important role in development of individuals and the society as a whole, because it drastically increases the scale of these improvements. Working in groups and teams far increases
