Classical and Modern Architecture

Classical and Modern Architecture Architecture has to do with planning, designing and constructing form, space and ambience to reflect functional, technical, social, environmental and aesthetic considerations. It requires the creative manipulation and coordination of materials and technology, and of light and shadow.

The architecture and urbanism of the Classical civilizations such as the Greek and the Roman evolved from civic ideals rather than religious or empirical ones and new building types emerged.

Architectural "style" developed in the form of the Classical orders. Classical architecture has many typical style and a long

history.Pick up one of them, Rococo is a good topic.

For his appearance, Rococo architecture, was a lighter, more graceful, yet also more elaborate version of Baroque architecture, which was ornate and austere.The fuction of this kind of

architecture appear more as public palace like Queluz National Palace in Portugal.As for the degree of comfort, as a royal

palace,and you can see. When we think about the originality of this one,little change may be our first impression.

Around the beginning of the 20th century, a general

dissatisfaction with the emphasis on revivalist architecture and elaborate decoration gave rise to many new lines of thought that

served as precursors to Modern Architecture. Buildings displayed their functional and structural elements, exposing steel beams and concrete surfaces instead of hiding them behind decorative forms. Modern architecture is better at his specificity and originality. Take example of Frank Lloyal Wright’s pieces.

Compared with classical one, his appearance is more strange. The most famous one is Prairie Houses.The roof slope of house is very small, there is a deep cantilever beam,but there is no attic and basement.You may have another sight on this one. Because of his specificity, the function of this one is more clear.Winslow Personal House is just for personal living house,and Imperial Hotel is for commercial rent. A little bit shorter than Rococo in decoration, but it doesn’t influence his comfort any more. Needless to say , originality is the brightest spot between all of these characteristic. Frank Lloyd Wright developed Organic architecture in which the form was defined by its environment and purpose, with an aim to promote harmony between

human habitation and the natural world with prime examples being Robie House and Falling Water.

Regardless of the luxury of classical one or the originality of the modern one, we can appreciate them in different way. As for me,again, I prefer the modern one for his approaching living.
